Placed like a precious stone among oasis of white sands, coconut trees, magnificent rock formations, and transparent, fresh water lakes, Jericoacoara was a lost fishing village. Renamed JERI by the first adventurous hippies that discovered it, after 30 years it still maintains its enchanting charm, and is considered one of the world’s 10 most beautiful beaches.
So the Jangadas still plough the waves challenging the wind surf boards riding them.
Today, electrical current has arrived, the huts of the fishermen have transformed into graceful pousadas, and you can still go barefoot along the sandy roads as they did in the past. Cars cannot circulate, except 4x4’s; distances are minimal and the rhythm of life is peaceful.
